April Lockhart
April Lockhart was born on July 4, 1995. In seventh grade she began playing guitar and taking piano classes, which ignited her passion for music writing. April's very first song was called Different, which she wrote at the age of 12. When April was 14 years old, she spent the majority of her time making song concepts and perfecting her music. Soon, April began to take trips in NY and LA along with her dad in order for them both to write songs. April was also able to add other themes in the tune "Take My Hand" for some of acquaintances who faced problems like peer pressure, issues, or even teens who committed suicide. Lockhart is an influencer in the beauty and lifestyle industry with an ever-growing fan base. She is a partner with the popular brand Ilia with whom she has a partnership and is also an expert in the field of lifestyle. The disability she has is part of her identity, but it is not the whole of the picture. Lockhart doesn't deny her disability on Instagram, but she isn't making it the focal point of it. What message is it trying to convey? The message? That we each contain multitudes, that our identity and physical bodies aren't what they seem. Lockhart talks through video from Nashville. "I don't want it to define my life. I do not want to be merely identified as a specialist in disability. And it doesn't affect my day-to-day life I do things normally, and I've discovered the best way for me to adapt things. This is also part of my personality, and that it is something to be talked about. Lockhart encourages us to keep striving to be self-accepting. She admits that she has gone through phases of insecurity with her physique and being uneasy wearing certain clothing styles which exposed her arms. She now wears any outfit she wants and posts pictures on Facebook in awe. Self-love for her was always a lengthy process. This is, however, common for anyone who has insecurities. The people around you with, who know you, and can see through your eyes are the ones you should be relying on who can remind you of the things you're worried about.
